Destiny Won’t Be Getting Raid Matchmaking, Here’s Why

The development team at Bungie has made a lot of big changes for Destiny during its second year of life, but it seems that there’s at least one core element of the social shooter that will never be tweaked, with no plans at the moment to deliver a matchmaking system for the raids that draw many of the players. Luke Smith, the creative director, working on the title, tells Games Radar that such a feature would be a problem because it would give gamers the impression that other gamers are disposable and only count as long as they can provide firepower during combat. The future of the game is free and linked to microtransactions After the massive set of changes that were introduced in update 2. The focus for the near future will be on the introduction of new content and tweaks to the way microtransactions work. With the addition of the Eververse Trading Company, gamers can use real world money to get access to the Silver currency, which at the moment can be used to get access to emotes and content linked to the Halloween event. Bungie says that the new revenue stream is being used to expand a live events team, which means Destiny will have a range of new content offered for free to the entire community. Both quests and missions are expected to arrive every couple of months and more cosmetic options for Guardians will be delivered soon.

Similarly, don’t worry about classes too much. While certain classes and their abilities can be useful – the Hunter void class can go invisible or tether enemies for damage phases, for example – as with previous Raids on Normal mode there isn’t much that depends on a specific class or sub-class. That said, if you haven’t already it’s worth unlocking all three sub-classes to give you as many abilities as possible for both offence and defence.

Bring your best weapons with you, and if possible, attempt to pack a range of weapons and armour types to maximise your range of energy options for pesky shielded enemies. Destiny 2 review

With the base game feeling like a big step backward from the original Destiny post-Rise of Iron, plenty of people were hoping an expansion would bring changes and new areas that would last for months. When I sat down to review Destiny 2 Warmind, I figured that surely after the outcry over how content-thin Curse of Osiris was that Bungie would have given us a meaty helping of lore, ground, and guns to explore. Destiny 2 Warmind Review:

is the Internet home for Bungie, the developer of Destiny, Halo, Myth, Oni, and Marathon, and the only place with official Bungie info straight from the developers.

Despite how I felt about it then, it did have a few things going for it such as the shooting mechanics which were really good and some of the concepts that its bare bones narrative grasped at straws to try and explain. The disastrous interview with Luke Smith, the creative director behind Destiny, with Eurogamer initially turned me off of buying the expansion. Then I realized I had a rebate coupon that I could use to knock the price down and an insatiable curiosity to know if it actually could be better.

The rest is installation history. For me, Destiny always seemed weirdly late to the party in the face of other systems in the gaming space that used the same elements albeit more successfully. Whether it was a bold attempt to try something new and not getting it, I have no idea. Just that Destiny seemed to want to do things its own way leading to some strange decisions such as forcing everyone to visit a website to check on whatever lore they had uncovered via its card system in-game.

Games such as Xenosaga in had the gall to include an in-game encyclopedia for its lore. A disc containing a vanilla copy of Destiny was also included. The codes worked just fine for those with a Digital Only version like me. TTK addresses a lot of why I abandoned Destiny in the first place. This is just me plugging through the campaign stuff with the occasional matchmaking for campaign strike missions.

Raids differ from Strikes in a few ways: In Destiny 2 the new Guided Games feature allows solo-players to seek out Clan members to play with in end-game activities such as raids. Raid enemies will have abilities not found elsewhere in the game i. Strikes last roughly half an hour, whereas raids can take up to several hours.

Nov 3, I’ve had very similar thoughts about the whole Matchmaking thing in the Destiny series, and I thought I’d chime in with some ideas that I’ve observed over time as Destiny has evolved. I come from a very heavy MMO background as well so the idea of the game not having chat or an LFG system built into the game was baffling to me and a huge deterrent for me enjoying the game during Year 1. Over time, as I played the game more and actually got more invested in it, I started to try to understand the why behind certain decisions when it comes to matchmaking.

Some of the decisions they make downright make the game more frustrating for a player, especially on PC. However, as you mentioned in the OP, it does line up with their philosophy of what Destiny should be like. This presents unique challenges as there are some positives that come from the situation they have made as well as the negatives I’m sure many of us have all encountered.

The main thing that sticks out to me is that having the player leave their comfort zone somewhat to gain passage into doing a harder activity can lead to bolstering the community as a whole. An example of this could be the original DestinyGAF community.
